HOW WE GOT HERE

Neomercs is the brainchild of the Philippe Ruiz, whose life experience helped him create the universe. In 2011, a chance meeting with Ian Crawshaw resulted in the first attempt at bringing Neomercs to life. Originally billed as an online game, development began. Unfortunately, this was short lived and against both founder's best wishes, a decision was made to put the game on ice.

Fast forward to the present and the birth of AI, where Ian's marketing work led him to try again. A few months later, much to Philippe's surprise, a finished version of the game arrived on the doorstep at his home in rural France.

With a new passion to succeed, a phoenix rose from the ashes. Neomercs was reborn... And this time it's here to stay!

FOUNDER - PHILIPPE RUIZ

Alva

Born in Limoges in 1968, the author grew up between two founding influences: a Cartesian father and a spiritually-inclined mother. From an early age, this duality forged his vision of the world and his ability to interweave realism and mystery in his writing. A passionate fan of astronomy and comic books growing up in the working-class districts of Limoges, he developed a rich imagination nourished by science and fiction.

His career as an entrepreneur in the world of video games, followed by a number of unexplained personal experiences, led him to question the boundary between rational reality and inexplicable phenomena. These reflections and his taste for complex narratives gave rise to NEOMERCS in his forties - an ambitious work combining technological thriller and spiritual quest, probably the project of a lifetime.

Today, he continues to explore the grey areas between science and mystery, technology and transcendence, through his writing.

Philippe is also the inspiration for the character, 'Alva'.

FOUNDER - IAN CRAWSHAW

The Architect

From a young age, Ian was a typical nerd — painting Warhammer, watching Star Wars, and burying his head in Tolkien's classics.

That love for fantasy and sci-fi never left him. A career that moved from programming into marketing eventually collided with a chance meeting, and Neomercs was born.

Ian is also the inspiration for the character, The Architect.

EMBRACE CHANGE

Neomercs was built by two people with a vision and a limited budget. Without AI illustration, this world simply wouldn't exist yet.

We use AI to generate the imagery that brings our characters and universe to life. We're transparent about that. What AI hasn't touched — and never will — is the story, the lore, the card design, and the game itself. Every piece of Neomercs canon comes from human minds and always will.

Our roadmap includes commissioning artists as the game grows. The first community vote on which card gets its artwork replaced will happen before the end of 2026. That moment will be worth celebrating.

We believe the future of independent game development involves these tools — used honestly, and with a clear plan for what comes next.
